Honeymooning

We left the morning after our wedding for our 2 week, yes 2 WEEK, honeymoon!  One benefit of working in a school is that I have some time in the summers for this, and Mike was able to with his normal days off and vacation days for the year take off some time too! It was so nice to be able to have time together, travel, but also keep it pretty low key.

We went to Las Vegas for a few nights, then headed to San Diego, we went on a 4 day cruise, and spent some more time in San Diego.

We started in Vegas and stayed at our now "usual' place. The Westin at Lake Las Vegas is seriously our favorite hotel. It isn't on the strip, it  is more in Henderson, but it is like a resort with great pools, amazing atmosphere, and we love it! (Also travel tip, it is on Travelzoo top 20 deals a lot with their breakfast buffet included and it is pretty delicious)

It wouldn't be a honeymoon without one mishap of course! I was sure I had done all the planning and scheduling of the many different hotels, cruises, and events we were doing on this trip. All was going well until we got to San Diego and our hotel. We had planned to be in San Diego 2 days before our cruise and 2 days after. I had planned to stay at the same hotel for both sets of nights and was sure all my planning was correct.  I was wrong. After spending the whole day driving to Cali from Vegas and getting suck in typical Cali traffic, we arrived at our hotel only to find that I had booked 2 rooms for the dates after our cruise and no rooms for the dates before our cruise.  ðŸ˜©  The manager of the hotel was helping us and informed me that they didn't have any rooms because it was COMIC CON! I am not fully into the comic world, but I do know that San Diego Comic Con is crazy busy and people come from all over to attend which meant all the other hotels in that area would also be fully booked. I was tired, frustrated, and with the thought of either not having a room, or paying a ridiculous amount for a room looming over me I totally broke down.  I was a crying mess! What great way for Mike to get to see me in stressful situations! haha.  I can laugh now, but I definitely wasn't laughing then.

While Mike called multiple hotels trying to find a room. I called hotels.com to see if we could get a refund on the double booking we had made for the 2 previous nights, or perhaps transfer to the booking to another hotel. We were sitting in the parking lot of the hotel (it was the 4 Points Sheraton in San Diego, btw), pretty late at night, with the real chance that we would be sleeping in our car that night.  I was able to cancel and be refunded the accidental booking, but we were still struggling to find a place that had any available rooms.  While sitting there we got a call from the manager at the Sheraton letting us know that the was able to get us a room and to call hotels.com and change the room over to the dates we needed. Of course I had just canceled the booking and they were not able to rebook it. We went back into the Sheraton where the manager (his name was Murt and I will never forget him- he saved us and I want to send him a thank you card) was able to get us a rate that was pretty similar to what we had reserved it for, and give us a room for the 2 nights we hadn't booked for.  He knew we were on our honeymoon and by some miracle was able to work it out for us! It all worked out, and Mike got to see me have a total meltdown :) We were able to get some rest and enjoy our 2 days in San Diego.

Mike can eat spaghetti and meatballs from every italian restaurant we ever go to. It is his favorite. We stumbled up Carinos in La Jolla, and man it did not disappoint. It was some good italian food!

We spent the next 4 days on a cruise. It was Mikes first time on a cruise ship, and I had to show him the ropes which mean ice cream cones :) We went to Catalina Island and rented a golf cart, and just hung out there one day.  Went to Ensenada Mexico for a day and got a personal tour guide to the "bufadora" the blow hole and some shopping in.  I have done this 4 day cruise at least 5 times, sometimes not even getting off the boat at the stops because I had been there already, but it was so fun to get to do the same things I have done before but with Mike.  I'm pretty sure I hooked him on cruises!

When we got off the cruise and back to our friend Murt at the Sheraton we were exhausted. We spent that first day back in San Diego just hanging out and gearing up for Sea World the next day! So I spent many years of my life growing up in San Diego and we went to Sea World a lot. I have always loved it and spent many years of my childhood dreaming of being a dolphin trainer haha! So when we planned to go to San Diego I HAD to go to Sea World and Mike is just the best sport.

If you have ever been on a cruise you know that when you get off the boat and back on land you still can feel the movement of the boat.  Mike was feeling it, as it was his first cruise, and he was feeling pretty sick from that constant movement so he wasn't super pumped to spend the day in the sun at essentially an amusement park, but he was sure trying to have the best time.  The day was hot! Not in a sunny way, but a humid and stuffy way but we made the best of it!

This pictures makes me laugh, it looks like I went on a water ride, but no that is just sweat haha.  We would go to the turtle encounter because it was air conditioned and we would just sit and take a break! haha

We headed home after those few days in Cali, and while the trip was amazing we were excited to get home and start our lives together!
